Vacation Style: Moving Beyond the Hawaiian Shirt

As we approach the holiday season, many guys are going to be taking time off work and hitting the beaches for an escape from the cold weather. If you have a big beach vacation planned in the next few weeks, you might want to invest in some better vacation apparel so you can look damn good while you’re out there on the sand.

While there’s a special place in our heart for the beloved Hawaiian shirt, it’s simply seen its day come and pass. Not to say anything negative to the Tommy Bahama franchise, but we think we can do a little better. Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can look great on your vacation this year. Check it out below:

Go for Lightweight

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you should really think about the materials you’re going to be wearing in a tropical climate. Even if you’re out at night and don’t need to worry about overheating from the sun, the humidity can be killer. Try going for light and airy fabrics like linen to avoid awkward sweat stains and discomfort throughout the day.

Play Up Your Colors

Vacation is your time to let loose and unwind a bit. If you’re someone that normally shies away from involving too much color in his wardrobe, your upcoming vacation is the perfect opportunity to turn the tables and start playing up your colors more than usual. When you’re in a vacation destination, everything tends to be a little bit more colorful, so the only way you’ll be standing out is in a good way.

If you don’t want to overhaul your entire wardrobe, just look for some colorful accents that you can pick up to change your look in a subtle way. Adding a dash of color through something like a pair of socks or a lightweight scarf can be all you need for a festive vacation look.

Layer Your Look

While you might associate layering with your winter attire, it can actually be a great look for warmer climates as well. Opting for a shirt like the Linen Shirt with the sleeves rolled up worn over the 901 Vee T Shirt would look great and is the perfect weight for a casual day out and about around town while you’re on vacation. And our shirts are exceptionally comfortable. As Will Levy of luxury retailer Oak Hall puts it, “By far the most comfortable shirt I have ever worn. It was unorthodox, but remained very sophisticated.”

If you are going to layer in warmer climates, you’ll want to make sure you’ll choosing layers which are made from lighter fabrics to avoid overheating. Aesthetically, the layered look is going to be more flattering and give off the impression that your look is more pulled together than if you’re just sporting a T shirt on its own.

Get Creative with your Sun Gear

When you’re spending a lot of time in the sun, you’ll need to take your protection from the sun in mind. Sunglasses can be pretty basic, but there is a whole class of style savvy specs that can be a great accent for your look. For protecting your head, the average Joe might just throw on an old baseball cap and call it a day, but we’re not in the business of dressing the average Joe. The VK Nagrani gentleman knows how to pull off a hat that’s suitable for any occasion. You don’t have to go full fedora, but anything more than the standard baseball hat is going to be a better option.

When you’re getting ready to pack for your upcoming vacation, you now have all the tools at your disposal to get your style up to snuff. Follow these tips and you’ll be the best dressed guy at your destination!
